Oh, oh, Oamaru

About 23 years ago one of my best friends moved to the tiny town of Oamaru, in New Zealand's South Island. I've visited a few times, but it is a bit far flung so is not always on my itinerary when I return to NZ to visit the rellies! This week, though, Andrew and I are delighted to be in Oamaru and catching up with our friends here. We remembered the place as rather windswept and desolate so it has been a pleasant surprise to see how much the town has changed in the (ahem) fifteen years or so since we were last here. Some highlights:

Dinner at the lovely Portside Restaurant, (alas no pics) ...

(Multiple) coffees at The Roost cafe ...

A wander around the historic precinct ...

The farmers' market ...

All in all, a fabulous place to visit! Oamaru is situated between Christchurch and Dunedin, and we recommend checking it out if you're ever in the area. Oh, and the view of the harbour from the lookout is just gorgeous, don't you think?
