The upside of La Niña

Canberra is usually a bit of a desert. Some plants won't grow here at all; others only grow when you apply massive quantities of water. Many of the plants/shrubs/trees in my garden are native species as they're more likely to survive and thrive than exotics. Anyway, we've had a couple of years of greater than average rainfall, which – while very sad in wetter parts of the country that have suffered floods – has made my garden bloom. I wanted to take a few photos before the La Niña effect disappears and the desert comes back …

Blueberry, boysenberry and gooseberry bushes

Raspberry, loganberry and marionberry bushes

The pomegranate tree that came back from the dead

Ferns are unfurling!

Lavender and daisies

Oregano

Mint plants keep appearing amongst the seaside daisies

Last but not least … the beginnings of next year's yam crop :-)
