Not resolutions, but goals

New years' resolutions are made to be broken, so I like to make a list of goals instead. I got the idea from one of my favourite bloggers, Frugal Zeitgeist, a few years ago. Sadly she seems to have stopped blogging, but the goal setting habit has stayed with me. At the start of each year I make a list of measurable, achievable goals, then tick 'em off as they are achieved. My goals fall into five major categories (financial, health, professional development, giving, and things to do) and for 2012 I've decided to have an overarching theme too: this will be my Buy Nothing Year! Obviously, I'll still be buying essentials (food, toiletries, etc.) but I want to be absolutely conscious about consuming only items I need, rather than buying any unnecessary clutter. This should be an interesting journey.

As for individual goals I won't bore you with minute details, but this year I plan to:
- keep up the volunteering and microfinance lending
- cheer my jaded pancreas and join my fellow blogger Walter in embracing a low carbohydrate, high protein, vegetable rich diet, and
- cook more Asian food.

Happy New Year!

Good luck Karen, and I love the overarching theme! I look forward to hearing about your progress as the year goes on. Happy New Year!
